I was standing around the entry point to the Old Town taking pictures. It looked awfully familiar. The labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets reminded me a bit of Venice but there's an even closer resemblance to Dubrovnik in Croatia.
I thought the two-hour window would give us sufficient time to visit all the attractions in the Old Town. But as the temperature continued to drop (and we didn't have enough winter clothing with us), we decided to find a place to sit down and keep warm.
Little nugget hasn't eaten for hours so after looking all over Old Town for a tapas bar with pasta on the menu, we finally found Restaurante Munto Jatetxea on one of the narrow streets.
But as soon as we were seated, the server delivered some really bad news to us - pasta dishes won't be available until dinner time which would be another couple of hours!
At this point, we were way too tired (and cold) to venture out again looking for another restaurant so we knew the small bites on the counter table would be our only hope.
Grilled prawns - Little nugget looked like he's starving. He jumped all over these as soon as the plate landed on the table.
Chorizo bun - The grilled sausages were fairly tasty but a little too salty and spicy for someone who hasn't eaten for hours.
Mushroom, jamon and cheese - Not bad.
The place was absolutely packed around happy hours so it was a pain in the axx to get the server's attention (there's only one working during our visit) and place an order. Cold, starving and with my patience tested, this has to be one of my least favorite dining experience of all time.
