But just when all hope was lost, the impossible happened. We ran into a Japanese noodle bar (or ramen shop) in the old town area called Fufu.
Another piece of amazing news we got from Fufu Japanese Noodle Bar was the fact that it's already open for business at 4:30pm!
There's nothing wrong with calling this Japanese noodle bar jack of all trades. Other than ramen, they also offer a small selection of yakisoba (fried Japanese noodles) and donburi with tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlets). Not bad for a small noodle joint originated from Bordeaux.
Ramen (€9.50) - Shoyu (soy sauce based) ramen served with the usual suspect of bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, barbecued pork and soft-boiled egg. I didn't expect such a bowl of authentic Japanese ramen in a small town like Bayonne.
The soft-boiled egg was almost perfect.
The char siu was more on the lean side but I thought not bad as well.
We definitely lucked out finding Fufu in the middle of Bayonne out of the blue tonight. Little nugget was a happy camper and he could be seen smiling all the way back to the hotel.
