We are having a very early dinner tonight since some of us including yours truly will be going to a night spa immediately after. Since no one had any idea where to go for dinner, I decided to simply bring everyone to Somboon Seafood Restaurant where I used to be a frequent visitor during my business traveling days.
Somboon has expanded quite a bit since my hay days. Now, they can be found anywhere from Siam Square (across the street), ICONSIAM to this one at Central Embassy. They have always been very good with their seafood dishes and the prices are more than reasonable (In the past, I would've said cheap but not anymore).
Fried curry crab (Medium - 600 Baht) - Their award-winning curry crab is what lures us back every time we visit Bangkok. The secret recipe with curry and scrambled eggs makes it such an addictive dish all around and everyone seemed to enjoy it (the sauce in particular).
We ordered a medium sized crab only (serving 2-3 people) since everyone claimed the nasty heat was ruining their appetite and that worked out well.
Roasted fresh water prawns with glass noodles (Small - 340 Baht) - This was served in a traditional hot pot. The water prawns were pretty tasty and so were the glass noodles (though a little oily thanks to the pork belly).
Steamed fresh water prawns with garlic (Small - 500 Baht) - Very nice and working well with our fried rice. In my opinion, much better value for money than the one with glass noodles based on the portion.
Stir-fried oyster with flour and egg (Small - 200 Baht) - Would much prefer the crab omelette instead but some of us wanted oysters. Not bad.
Stir-fried morning glory with garlic (Large - 240 Baht) - Served as our salad today.
Fried rice with crab meat (Medium - 300 Baht) - This was disappointing. It used to be one of my favorite dish here due to its "wok hei" but the wok hei was gone. Now, it looked more like a plate of plain rice mixed with scrambled eggs and crab meat.
Little nugget was suddenly having high temperature (just over the limit) so we quickly asked for the bill and headed back to the hotel to get him his medication.
