Greyhound Cafe at Groove @Centralworld (Bangkok, THAILAND) ★★★☆☆

This week, I’m visiting Bangkok for the first time since 2015. The entire family is traveling along with me on this one. Mom is tagging along (she claimed she hasn’t been there for 30 years!), so are little nugget, my in-laws and helper. I guess Jelloman can’t say she’s short-handed this time around.

Much of the talk has been about where we go for our first meal in the Land of Smiles. To give everyone a nice surprise, I decided to throw them a curveball by arranging brunch at Greyhound Cafe this morning. Greyhound again? Didn’t we have enough of them in Hong Kong?

I was surprised and reasonably disappointed to find that they don’t offer their Thai style milk tea here anymore. That left a “western” style iced tea with milk as the lone milk tea on the drink menu. But on the bright side, they do have a pretty good banana shake, which isn’t available in Hong Kong. Call it even?

Thai Tea Granita (120 Baht) - A more thirst-quenching choice than the milk tea and shake. Too bad it's not available in the Hong Kong branches.

Fresh Vietnamese spring rolls (160 Baht) - There’re boiled shrimp, chicken, pork skin and fresh vegetables all packed inside the paper-thin flour sheets. And they always match well with the sweet and sour sauce.

Greyhound’s Famous fried chicken wings (160 Baht) - Always a crowd pleaser.

Fried rice with shrimp paste (230 Baht) - The fried rice with caramelized pork, shallots, dried shrimps wasn’t bad but what really made a smile on everyone’s face was the pork crackling. Man, haven’t had those for decades and they’re very addictive as usual.

Vegetarian phad Thai (150 Baht) - Something for our little nugget. I wish the one at Greyhound Hong Kong is also this cheap.

Spaghetti with crab meat in prawn cream sauce (300 Baht) - If there’s ever a dish that the Hong Kong branches need to steal from their Bangkok counterpart, this is it.

The spaghetti was tossed beautifully in this creamy prawn sauce. Everyone ended up fighting over this dish, including little guy who’s supposed to have his Phad Thai!

It was so nice to be back in Bangkok, a city where I can always count on for good food and relaxing massage. And I am just warming up for a full day of actions ahead.
