As one of the oldest and most famous chocolate cafes in Madrid, it's one of the can't-miss spots for any tourist.
Once we dropped off our luggage at the hotel, we decided to pay the famed chocolate cafe a visit. But they handed me some bad news once I stepped through those doors. The main tea salon was so fully occupied that it was very unlikely that a table would open up anytime soon, they said.
However, there were still tables available at the basement salon. That would work for us (despite we needed to carry our little nugget and his baby pram down the stairs).
Finally, we got settled down and it didn't take long for our hot chocolate and freshly made warm churros to arrive.
These were still very very hot so it was the perfect time to take a few more photos while they cool off.
Very crispy, very flaky and super tasty!!!!
Everyone got his/her own hot chocolate fudge sauce ready and let the dipping begin.....
Look at that perfect golden brown color. Just the perfect match with the thick and richly flavored chocolate sauce. Luckily, we got ourselves two orders of these (11 Euros plus the three hot chocolate, not too shabby at all).
In case you can't fall asleep or are simply in need for a midnight snack (or both), Chocolatería San Ginés opens 24 hours a day.
