Visiting Madrid without a trip to Gran Via is like going to New York without visiting Time Square. Arguably the trendiest street in Madrid, Gran Via (Literally “The Great Way”) is the hustling and bustling part of the Spanish capital’s city centre with no shortage of stylish boutiques, restaurants and cafes. To ensure that we have sufficient time to familiarize ourselves in this area, I decided to stay right on the famed street during our 4-day visit.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I end up getting a fabulous deal on our stay at 5-star Hyatt Centric Gran Via, an iconic hotel which has just completed a major facelift in 2018.
The hotel is located just off buzzy Plaza del Callao right behind the historic facade of a 1920s-era building. The design of the hotel lobby and public areas looked a bit playful to me at first glance. Anyone who knows me understands the simple concepts behind what I believe makes a great hotel (design not counting service and other intangibles of course) - contemporary, cozy and warm. Didn't look like a fit for me here.
There are a number of sculptures in the building but none caught my eyes more than this one standing tall in the middle of the lobby next to the elevator.
The stairs looked well decorated but since we've been put on the 8th floor, I knew I probably won't be using these very often during my stay.
As a dynamic lifestyle brand, Hyatt Centric Gran Via certainly delivers. The modern chic decor evokes a sense of simplicity which is perfect for cosmopolitan living (and lodging). It's the perfect home away from home.
I like the extensive use of wood as well, with different degrees of darkness and tone, matching the urban living theme superbly.
There are lots of natural lights coming thru the windows so the lamps are more for decorative purposes only.
Every inch of space was put into good use as seen from the bench and cupboard.
My little nugget obviously very happy with his room.
Wait until he sees his share of the bill!
The bathroom was probably the only place in the room that didn't get a full facelift. At least, that's how it looked like. It didn't fully match the contemporary style of the room.
Anyone who has a hunger for space would love this bathroom because it's so spacious.
Shower room and toilet, separated only by the glass doors.
Hyatt Centric Gran Via is the place to stay if you want to feel the energy of Madrid's most famous avenue. Apart from its prime location, the hotel also boasts a 24-hour fitness gym and 3 cocktail bars. The rooftop bar is one of the most popular attractions in the city because of its panoramic view of Madrid. It's a place to see and be seen.
Honestly, I can't think of a reason why I won't stay here again on my next visit.
