My first experience with them came last year in Kyoto and it was a bit of a mixed bag but this is going to be a totally different concept all together at Q's Mall Abeno. ELK New York Brunch is touted more as an American diner with a Japanese twist.
Of course, we know Japanese pancakes will be heavily featured in their food menu. Other than their always popular sweet pancakes, there are also savory pancakes like this one with cheese and sausage.
Also available are hot dogs and sandwiches, like this one with their super thick scrambled eggs.
But we are going to start things off with some pancake sundaes (580 yen) first. Yes, you heard it right. Each of these sundaes came with their homemade sauce (Left: strawberry; right: caramel) served on top of small pieces of pancakes. Meh.....
It's not chestnut season yet in Japan but mom couldn't care less since she's such a big fan of chestnut. This marron soufflé pancake (1280 yen) looked like it's going to be really mouthwatering.
The three large pieces of fluffy pancakes were looking great with chestnut purée, caramelized chestnuts, chestnut sauce and cocoa powder served on the side but right from my first bite, I realized the pancakes just weren't airy and fluffy enough. It's pretty sad considering we came here mainly because of their pancakes.
Q's Mall is a pretty good place for parents to hang out with their kids. My little one simply loves it here!
