Our first adventure took us to La Table de Paradis, a small bistro-style restaurant on Harborview Dori that serves casual French dishes in a classic European setting.
The dining room of La Table de Paradis is very small with only 6 tables and there are another 4-5 seats at the bar.
When we called to make our reservation about a week ago, we were also requested to choose from one of the two set menus. So everything was all set the moment we sat down.
Our first course was a local horse mackerel with radish Julienne and garden green. I didn't finish this one (2.5/10).
Next up was sautéed firefly squid and bamboo shoots. I like the fact that they have thrown in some local ingredients to make it more interesting and without a doubt, it's the best dish of the night (7/10).
The pan seared foie gras was quite neatly prepared with very few garnish, just a wild vegetable salad and dashes of raspberry sauce (5/10).
Sandwiched between the last starter and our main course was a cup of tomato soup that was seriously good. I love anything that kept my stomach warm (5.5/10).
Out of the four main courses, I had the braised pig shank meat with a beer sauce. The meat was slightly on the hard side (4.5/10).
The other main course was sautéed beef fillet with potatoes, diced vegetables and what I thought was some sort of bean purée. The meat was quite chewy and a little rough (3.5/10).
Dessert was just a simple butter cake with vanilla ice-cream, whipped cream and some local mandarin. Nothing to write home about (3.5/10).
Despite having mixed feelings about this meal (there were some dishes that simply didn't work), I did enjoy the atmosphere surrounding the place and the overall service had been excellent. If I ever crave for French bistro food in Okinawa, I had no trouble coming back to this one at all.
