La Degustation Bohême Bourgeoise (Prague, CZECH) ★★★☆☆

After a lengthy drive from Berlin with a brief stop-over at Dresden, we finally arrived at Prague very late at night. It was already well after 10pm so the restaurant manager from La Degustation politely let us know that they could no longer offer their standard degustation menu so we took the shorter "Post opera" menu instead.

The restaurant was decorated as dark as a cinema with only bright spots from the open kitchen and most noticeably its black and white square tiles.

Our server started serving us some nibbles which were potato topped with caviar. We didn't like the combination of potato and caviar at all. Didn't find them meshed very well together (4/10).

Then an amuse bouche arrived in the form of a beef tartar sandwiched between crispy biscuits. The tartar was very gentle and had not been peppered with too much seasoning allowing us to taste the natural flavour of the beef (6/10).

Next up our first main course - South Bohemian Trout with horseradish and cabbage. Much stronger in seasoning but the trout fish didn't taste as well as it should (4/10).

The meat dish started with a beef oyster blade with a dill sauce. This was the shoulder area of the cow and I thought tenderness was sorely missing (4/10). I did like the thick dill sauce that went along the beef oyster blade though. Very rich in flavour.

Perhaps, the dish we have all been waiting for - ratiborice rabbit with carrot and garlic. There were all together four parts of the rabbit here, the kidney, heart, leg and belly. The kidney tasted a little like a harder foie gras and the belly and leg were quite decent. Didn't like the heart which was served half-raw (5/10).

Dessert was a chocolate sorbet melted in a raspsberry and mint sauce added with some crispy chocolate chips (4/10).

A little disappointed with the overall experience. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that we didn't go through the more extensive degustation menu.
