Tai Cha Fan 大茶飯 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

I thought we were all going to sleep in on the first day of 2022 but no, little nugget had to go for a catch-up class before tomorrow's Taekwondo competition. Next thing I knew we were already in TKO and it's only 8am in the morning.

While little one was having his class, Jelloman and I took some time to check out the sports facilities nearby. It's our first visit to the Hong Kong Velodrome (香港單車館) and looks like when there's no cycling competition, the place turned into a series of badminton courts.

After his training, little one spent some time with his beloved grandpa walking around the park just outside the stadium.

Oh yes, it's already 3pm and all of us haven't had lunch yet. So without further delay, we ventured over to Popcorn mall hoping to find a place for a quick lunch. But not surprisingly, every single restaurant in TKO (almost) was full and we ended up going to the less crowded Park Central (將軍澳中心) for some Taiwanese food at a small place called Tai Cha Fan (大茶飯)

It won't be a Taiwanese meal without a glass of iced bubble tea, right?

We decided to start the year right with a healthier diet. A nourishing dish like this was perfect. The noodle soup came with a rich and flavorful chicken broth, half of a chicken, bok choy and some silky smooth fish maws. Not bad for the price we were paying!

Different flavors of glutinous rice balls with what I thought were red and green beans on the side.

It wasn't the big feast we were looking for on a typical New Year's Day but during the pandemic, we all adjusted our expectations accordingly. The most important thing was, we were able to spend the day with our love ones.
