After a truly impressive lunch at the newly crowned No. 6 best restaurant in Asia, we spent a little time exploring different corners of BFC (外灘金融中心) before heading down to the basement level. My mission was to check out Whites, a cake shop-cum-café known for its passion and creativity.
The café offers a small selection of coffee, tea, and soda but it was no mystery what I had come for — their pastries.
Like a kid in front of a toy store, I headed straight for the dessert counter. There, I spotted a few of their signature offerings that have made them a local favorite.
Mango pomelo sago cream (楊枝甘露) (¥48), a creative twist on the Cantonese dessert soup classic.
Gelato 大橘 (¥68).
Basque cheesecake (巴斯克) (¥48) — I’ve been working on a blog post about basque cheesecake in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, so I figured — why not one include Shanghai too?
I thought this was pretty creamy. It didn’t have the gluey center that many places seem to be doing lately, but I was really happy with the overall fluffy texture and balanced flavor profile.
