I thought I was done with all the sweet stuff on this trip. We’d had our fair share of exquisitely tasty desserts over the last three days in Shanghai, and with our early arrival at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (上海浦東國際機場), I figured that would finally put an end to my run of delicious treats.
Turns out I was wrong.
While we were strolling around Terminal 2’s international departure floor, I spotted O’mills Sourdough Bakery & Bistro just a short walk from our gate. Since we still had more than an hour before boarding, I assumed I could easily spare the time to sit down for a slice of cake.
Based on what I already knew about the brand, O’mills Sourdough Bakery & Bistro is a Shanghai-based artisanal bakery and restaurant chain that had recently expanded to Shenzhen. Founded in 2018, the brand is built around a “slow life” philosophy, specializing in 72-hour slow-fermented sourdough made with wild yeast and clean, organic ingredients.
Naturally, I wasn’t coming for salad or sandwiches. I went straight for the kill with the mountain sweet potato Basque cheesecake, which looked incredible from the display counter.

Sweet potato basque cheesecake (高山紅薯巴斯克) (¥48) — This was super fluffy, and I loved the little random patches of sweet potato 🍠 that complements the cheese beautifully.

I think this cheesecake is part of their extensive range of gluten-free and keto-friendly desserts. It features a creamy, “molten” center with the natural sweetness of sweet potato, and it’s topped with a nicely executed signature burnt Basque crust.

O’mills has several locations around Shanghai, and their decadent Basque cheesecake easily turned this place into an effortless sweet getaway. I had mine just now and I’m loving it.
