UZU (Shanghai, CHINA) ★★★★☆

Xintandi (新天地) is such a big site. From Xintandi Plaza (新天地廣場) and Xintandi North/South Block (新天地北南里) to Pacific Xintandi (太平洋新天地) that soft-opened in late 2025, it was a long long walk.

The purpose of my visit to the Pacific Xintandi Galleria was UZU, a relatively new member to the café scene in Shanghai.

UZU is a sleek coffee shop that also operates as a dessert café offering different pastries on a day-to-day basis.

Its mandarin shaped Japanese yuzu cake (日本柚子蛋糕) and tiramisu are two of the most popular desserts around here.

But I’m here for something else — basque cheesecake.

Rumors have it that UZU offers some of the best homemade basque cheesecakes in town. While their yuzu and chocolate basque cheesecakes have stolen the hearts of local dessert lovers, their roasted sweet potato basque cheesecake (烤紅薯巴斯克) was the sole reason for my visit.

Roasted sweet potato basque cheesecake (烤紅薯巴斯克) (¥38) — This came with an almost caramelized texture and the roasted sweet potato flavor was front and centre.

I had to make sure that I fully enjoyed every single bite of this.
