Tao Tao Ju One Avenue 陶陶居 卓悦中心店 (Shenzhen, CHINA) ★★★★☆

We are making our routine visit to Tao Tao Ju (陶陶居) at One Avenue (卓悅中心) this afternoon following some game time in Link Central City (領展中心城). The popular dim sum restaurant was buzzing earlier but was it was totally without a soul when we were ready to take off.

Pan-fried turnip cake (香煎蘿蔔糕) (¥26) — Very pillowy with a crisp, golden crust. Little nugget’s favorite dish to kick off the meal as always.

Sizzling lettuce in clay pot (啫啫生菜煲) (¥49) — Very very crisp and packed with flavors.

Steaming dumpling with vegetables and scallop (帶子娥姐粉果) (¥30) — A new creation on the dim sum menu. This was decent but unlikely to get the call again in the future.

Sweet and sour pork (冰鎮咕噜肉) (¥78) — Mom never had the pleasure of having TTJ’s signature sweet and sour pork before but she did now.

The play of temperature has always been the key of success with this dish. A warm centre paired with a cold, crisp exterior. Really succulent.

Tao Tao Ju's jumbo prawn dumpling (陶陶居大蝦餃) (¥36) — Another must-order at TTJ.

Steamed beef meatballs with preserved orange rind (山竹陳皮牛肉球) (¥33) — I couldn't believe someone order this without my permission! Never been a fan of the beef meatballs and I never will. This came with way too much preserved orange rind flavor again!

Steamed red rice rolls with crispy prawn (錦綉海鮮紅米腸粉) (¥36) — I’m a purist when it comes to steamed rice rolls (腸粉). The crispiness of the red version was a pleasant surprise in the past, but that train has long gone.

So it sounds like a new branch of Sister Wah (華姐清湯腩) is coming to One Avenue soon. Will it be easier to get in than their North Point flagship? I’m eager to find out myself.

Little nugget doesn’t want to be photographed today, so I’ll just take a picture of something as fat as my boy instead.
