After a string of meals at local cha chaan tengs (茶餐廳), I finally decided to treat myself to a proper lunch this afternoon. It felt like the right thing to do. After all, today is a day to remember after I received my long service award from my boss earlier this morning.
When I first joined the company two decades ago, I never imagined I’d still be here twenty years later. It was supposed to be a temporary stop — a stepping stone to something bigger. But over the first few years, I got more and more comfortable and the people, the rhythm, the work, it grew on me. My team and I joined forces to weather challenges together, celebrating one milestone after another.
That said, I’ll admit, standing on stage receiving the award today did make me feel... just a little old.
So, it called for a small celebration. Since I didn’t have much time before my next meeting, I ended up grabbing lunch at Chatterbox in K11 Musea. It wasn’t a formal celebratory meal, but hey at least it wasn’t another cha chaan teng visit.
Seafood char kway teow – This was nicely tossed in sweet soy. I wish there was more of a spicy kick there but no complaints from me with the generous amount of seafood, scallop, prawns, cuttlefish and more.
I managed to steal a good 30 seconds soaking in the ambiance at the Harbour Promenade. Brief but refreshing.
Tomorrow, I'll have my long-awaited annual getaway to Taiwan. It’s going to be a different kind of fun.
