After a pretty big crab roe noodles, the only thing on my mind (other than sleep 😴) was a glass of refreshing drink. Obviously, everyone also had the same idea, so while we were walking along the old streets of Nanluoguxiang (南鑼鼓巷), we were all on the lookup for a nice-looking cafe. Finally, we had one entering our radar screen - 皇小羽 杏仁茶烏梅露 南鑼鼓巷店.
Founded in 1845 during the Qing dynasty (清朝), 皇小羽 is best known for a number of things, its almond drinks, almond tofu and traditional Chinese desserts; and this is their flagship (南鑼鼓巷創始人店) right before our eyes. As I was in the mood for a drink, a steaming hot almond tea would serve me really well in the cold weather right about now.
Look at this cute-looking cup! The almond milk was certainly thick enough but I expected a little more creaminess in there with possibly grains of almond.
Next time, I would definitely check out their other signature, almond tofu that came with all kinds of flavors including chrysanthemum (菊花) which Tommy Boy said was very good.
