GāGǐNāng 飯館 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

It’s been a while since we last visited Harbour City, one of our favorite shopping complex in town. We decided to swing by for lunch this afternoon but didn’t realize what we were up against - wave after wave of people in the mall and needless to say, all the restaurants were fully packed with customers. After approaching at least 10 restaurants without luck, we put our names down on a couple of waiting lists and our search continued...

Luckily, we did get a call back in roughly an hour from GāGǐNāng 飯館.

We got a pretty good seat with a nice Harbourview right in front of us. But realizing it was already 3pm, time to focus on the food menu.

Steamed shrimp dumpling (水晶蝦餃) - The shrimp dumplings arrived piping hot.

Very nice flavors from the shrimp meshing well with the bamboo shoot.

Steamed pork and shrimp dumpling (鮮蝦燒賣) - Little nugget’s favorite dim sum. Not a bad choice from a limited dim sum menu.

Crispy rice rolls with scallop (金沙紅米帶子腸粉) - Nice crispy texture from the outside and moist inside thanks to the scallop. Little guy was wondering why his rice rolls were red instead of white.

Steamed Rice flour rolls with shrimp and coriander (香菜鮮蝦腸粉) - Lovely fragrance from the coriander. Pretty tasty.

Steamed chicken fillet with yam and fish maw (鮮淮山棉花雞) - Always like to order this from time to time. Pretty decent.

Shrimp and pork dumpling with noodle in supreme soup (上湯水餃蝦子麵) - Another one of little guy’s favorite. I got a small bowl out of this and the noodles with shrimp roes were so good.

Didn’t have the dumplings but I am more than happy to order just the shrimp roe noodles again.

Steamed mushroom buns (上素野菌包) - Everyone was starting to get bored of this. I have to admit it was pretty cute at first glance but...

Crispy shrimp and pork dumpling (小梨子咸水角) - Restaurants around town including Yan To Heen and Spring Moon started doing these pear shaped shrimp and pork dumplings years ago and now everyone’s doing it. These weren’t bad but I thought the crust could have been a little thinner so they could pack a bit more in the fillings.

Steamed Cantonese sponge cake (古法馬拉糕) - I have never turned away from a loaf of steamed Cantonese sponge cake but everything has a first time. This was a tad too sweet and I thought I knew who the culprit was (they are probably a little heavy handed with the coconut milk.).

No one was complaining about the food this afternoon cuz we were all too hungry to care. For me, I would much prefer western food these days because today proves once again that it’s impossible to enjoy Chinese food with our social distancing measures in place.
