My little nugget can't stop smiling since arriving at Tokyo Disneyland this afternoon. I guess they don't call this "the happiest place on earth" for nothing.
While little guy is loving every second of it, we are less than happy about the overall experience. Why, you ask? Well since today is a public holiday in Japan, not surprisingly, the place is absolutely packed and every ride takes about an hour of waiting time. So, unless you really enjoy waiting in long queues, otherwise it's not going to be a fun experience.
One of the smartest things I did for our Disneyland visit was to make an advance booking at Restaurant Hokusai. When I saw the faces of all the disgruntled customers waiting at the ground floor lobby, I was just relieved that I got a ticket in my hand (Still about a 10-minute walk even with advance booking).
Restaurant Hokusai is one of the six restaurants at Tokyo Disneyland. It's located in the heart of World Bazaar serving simple Japanese dishes like tonkatsu and tempura in a setting reminiscent to a traditional Japanese restaurant.
Despite having 280 seats inside the restaurant, Restaurant Hokusai is constantly full so be sure to make an online booking in advance. You can do it here but there's a catch - you need to sign up for a Disney account first.
A very simple menu consisting of just 3 items (each item comes with a choice between udon soup or rice).
Assorted tempura (2,180 yen) - Portion was a little small but not bad.
We had this with udon soup.
Tonkatsu (1,980 yen) - More successful were the deep-fried pork cutlets. They were surprisingly tender which was a little unexpected coming out of a Disney restaurant.
Crab and salmon roes don (2,280 yen) - A seasonal dish only available in the winter. Disappointingly, the least delicious dish from the trio we ordered.
Just when we finished up our meal and stepped out of the restaurant, a parade was about to start. That was great timing on our part.
