Gonpachi Odaiba 權八 台場 (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

Following stops at Venus Fort, Toyota MegaWeb and Diver City, it was time for our last adventure in Odaiba - visiting Aqua City. Instead of walking around the mall looking for a place to eat, I have already made the decision for everyone by securing advance booking at Gonpachi Odaiba (権八 お台場).

It’s my third visit to Gonpachi Odaiba. Despite two largely average experience so far, I was happy to come back for a third time with the comfort that little guy will find something he likes from the menu. And yes, he loves his Japanese skewers.

Of course, the jaw-dropping view of Rainbow Bridge. I don’t think I would ever get tired of it.

Zaru Tofu (540 yen) - Special homemade tofu served on a bamboo basket. I like the temperature of this. The fact that it’s chilled (felt like it has just come out of the fridge) was quite pleasing to our palate (because of all the heat in the restaurant).

Tebasaki (350 yen) - Their delicious chicken wings from the grill. Really a texture grilled chicken wing with perfectly crispy skin. Love the hint of yuzu too. Very nice. Definitely a must here.

Tsukune (300 yen) - Traditional Japanese minced chicken ball with a sweet soy glaze. This came with pieces of soft bones inside. Not bad. It’s supposed to be served with raw egg in most places. Don’t know why it cost extra here.

Chicken tail (220 yen) - Very gelatin texture almost like chicken neck. The exterior was crispy almost a bit crunchy.

Not bad but way too oily for me.

Chicken gizzard (220 yen) - Decent.

“Kake Soba” (750 yen) - Something for my little nugget. The hot broth surprised me with its subtle bitterness thanks to a bit of tangerine peel in there.

“Gindara” (1,580 yen) - Miso glazed cod fish. Something for mom since she thought the skewers were too “hot air”. As usual, pretty nice and rich flavored.

Just when we were finishing things up, the sky suddenly lit up behind us. We all took a quick peek out the window and guess what, there were fireworks shooting up the sky and exploding around the Rainbow Bridge forming different shapes and patterns.

An absolutely beautiful sight. And to be able to enjoy this moment with Jelloman, little guy and mom (We have never seen it live together), I am truly grateful of.

Some grandmother, grandson time...

On a night where food really takes a backseat. I had no idea there were going to be fireworks show here when I made my booking so this turned out to be a huge pleasant surprise. In fact, it’s like a late Christmas present for all of us.
