365日と日本橋 (Tokyo, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

I decided to skip breakfast this morning because the night before, I totally forgot about getting myself some bread. But it's always better late than never. While we were walking around the new wing of Nihombashi Takashimaya SC, we managed to bump into 365 Days (365日と日本橋), an artisan bakery cafe that focuses primarily on locally sourced ingredients.

365 Days is under the Ultra Kitchen Group who does wholesale business of baked goods all over Japan. This is just one of the few stores that they are doing "direct" sales to customers.

And they have been a big hit since it landed in Nihombashi Takashimaya SC.

It was nice to see that they have an in-house bakery kitchen attached to the store. The smell of freshly baked bread!

I was surprised with the abundance of French influenced bakery items here. Some canelés, croissants and pain au chocolate.

Chocolate flavored kouign amann, and what are those cute little buns with the white dots?

It was a little late for breakfast (almost 11:30am) so I considered these my early lunch.

Milk bun with white chocolate (280 yen) - I was curious of what the white dots were made of and they turned out to be white chocolate. This was pretty tasty.

Canelés (200 yen) - Very crunchy on the outside but soft inside. Not bad.

Tokyo is by far the best place in Asia to be having French pastries and viennoiseries. Apart from the French imports such as Paul and Thierry Marx (yes, he has bakery shops in Tokyo too), there are also countless home grown bakery shops offering some of finest French baked goods. Too bad my appetite is just not big enough to accommodate all of them!
