Over the years, I have seen a lot of reviews and posts about Loco Loco Seafood (로꼬로꼬조개찜) from different magazines and blogs in Hong Kong but for someone who's not a fan of touristy restaurants, it never gave me enough reasons to go try it out myself. However, since mom has tagged along on this trip to Seoul, I guess I'll make an exception.
Loco Loco Seafood does one thing and they do it very well. That's their seafood hotpot. They have 5 to 6 branches spread around the city but their Sinchon and Sinsa locations have always been the more popular ones. I went to their Sinsa location (It's more between Sinsa and Nonhyeon stations rather than right in Sinsa.) tonight and boy, it was totally worth our trouble of walking over all the way from Sinsa.
And what would a seafood restaurant be without fish tanks and fresh seafood right?
I swear at least half of the restaurant was seated with Hong Kongers left and right. I even bumped into a colleague of mine, who I later found out was an ex-colleague already. What a small world! Well, whatever promotion they have been doing overseas, it's working wonders.
They're starting everyone off with some free porridge first.....
.....that was following by some Korean pancakes, also free of charge!
We ordered two portions of their assorted seafood (abalone, prawns, scallops, octopus, mussels and clams; oh and a whole-chicken too!) and a separate order of grilled prawns. Those were already enough to send us home with a full tummy.
If you want a hassle free dinner with lots of local seafood without getting your hands dirty, then this is the place to be. Look at our server doing all the work (except eating) for us right there.
This meal including the assorted seafood (2 people's portion), some really nice (and fresh) grilled prawns and drinks set me back ₩62,000. A relatively small price to pay for all these quality seafood!
