I missed out on their cronut last time I was in Tokyo. They only make 200 to 250 pieces a day and they were easily sold out by the middle of the day. The only thing I got to sample was Mr Roboto, a melon pan filled with sweet hojicha and roasted brown tea cream. That was one of the exclusives at DAB Tokyo. This time around, I vowed to get my hands dirty with one of their patented cronuts. No way am I leaving Tokyo without laying hands on one of them.
If you're getting the idea that cronut creator Dominique Ansel Bakery is a one-trick pony, then you're totally wrong about them. As a matter of fact, they have got quite a long list of signature items including Frozen S’more, Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot, Cotton Soft Cheese Cake, Paris-Tokyo and Jasmine Flower, on top of their patented cronuts.
I thought their religieuse (dressed like a cute penguin), pistachio raspberry marble and 25-layer apple tart look amazing too.
DAB's signature cronut takes a fresh spin every month in Tokyo and this November, it's hazelnut and orange (600yen).
These Frozen S'mores (770yen) also look very tempting.....
After placing order for a cronut and Frozen S'more, it's time to sit back and patiently wait for the mouthwatering experience.
The chef was putting the finishing touch on our Frozen S'more.
Look at that gorgeous golden crackly shell!
It's Tahitian vanilla ice cream and crisp chocolate feuilletine underneath that honey marshmallow. Oh my.......
The cronut has the nice flaky texture of a croissant. I thought the combination of hazelnut and orange was, well, pretty interesting.....
I can finally check this one off my list now.
