Orignated from New York City, Doughnut Plant first started off out of the basement of a Lower East Side tenement building back in the late 1990's and slowly began to make a name for itself with its yeast doughnuts topped by some really unusual and colorful glazes.
Fast forward to 2016, Doughnut Plant is no longer working out of a basement anymore. Not only have they expanded in the United States, they have also made a successful move to Tokyo with nine locations in different parts of the city.
Doughnut Plant's doughnuts pretty much fall under three categories, yeast doughnuts, cake doughnuts and filled doughnuts. Their filled doughnuts which are filled with house made jams, creams, custards and in some cases, jelly, are currently their best sellers with Tres Leches and Blackout being two of their signature staples.
Soy milk and maple walnut doughnut (350yen) - All these colorful toppings certainly got my attention and it's way too tempting not to get my hands on at least one of them. I thought this was really really good. Never thought soy milk and maple walnut could be such perfect match. Now, I'm regretting not having a couple more of these before I go.
