After spending three nights on the island of Sicily, it was time for us to embark on a new journey. It’s a new destination, a city that I’ve never been to my whole life and I’m very excited about the possibility. A new city and an exploration of its people, culture and cuisine. It can’t get any better than that.
We transited thru
Amsterdam and arrived in Lisbon Portela Airport at around 7pm. Good thing I’ve
arranged a driver to pick us up at the airport cuz we are going to need all the
help we can possibly get.
Memmo Alfama Hotel Lisboa is your typical hidden gem in the heart of Lisbon’s Old Town (Alfama). A restoration project from a former bakery shop, the boutique hotel is now a member of Design Hotel after closing for a couple of years for renovation. It boasts one of the city’s best view overlooking the peaceful Tagus River but first, we have to find the hotel entrance in the dark through a dark cobblestone path. Thankfully, with the help of our taxi driver, it was easily accomplished.
Apart from the relatively tiny lobby, I have nothing but praise for this restoration project. I got ourselves a river view room on a higher level (I think there’s only 3 levels) and yes, let the adventure begin!
The bedroom was standard European size. A little small yes but simple and well organized.
Hidden behind the
curtains was the bathroom, shielded nicely by glass walls.
Look what Jelloman
found! Some colorful toilet paper brought to us by “The Sexiest WC on Earth”.
There’s more of
that available in the bathroom, along with a nice collection of amenities by Saboaria
Portugueza, a contemporary soap and bath products brand from Portugal that has
been on the rise since its launch back in 2006.
On the other side
of the room is a separate living room where we could find our view to Tagus
River.
Too bad, there’s
nothing to see other than complete darkness. I guess I’ll wait until tomorrow
morning to see what we’ve got by dropping a few extra bucks (for the river
view).
I fell asleep on
the sofa bed and by the time I felt like waking up, it was almost 6am. I wasted
no time going to the window side and check out the river view. Hello Lisbon!
There was
complimentary breakfast served on the first-floor Memmo Alfama Terrace every
morning so we quickly freshened up and kicked off our exploration of the hotel
facilities.
The terrace was
amazing. The way the houses were constructed along the hill; it felt a little
like Santorini Greece without the white houses but equally picturesque.
This is like a resort within the heart of a city.
