But the good news was, we did arrive at the five-star Hotel Villa Athena, though at very late hours.
We quickly got ourselves something to eat and crashed almost instantly after enjoying a nice bath.
The next morning, we finally got the chance to check out the first-class establishment. This is set in a beautiful mansion in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento overlooking the Temple of Concordia.
Almost every hotel room here has a front row seat to the Temple of Concordia. This is the view from our backyard (right from the doorstep).
Amazing!
And it got better at night when they turn on the lights.
I love the garden they built around the villa too.
We're definitely taking some Sicilian lemon and orange as souvenirs (just kidding)!
While we didn't get blown away by the design of our room, we were quite happy with the extra space.
All 27 rooms in the villa are decorated in icy white color with stunning tiled floors and vintage paintings providing the much needed color.
One of the things I like about the bathroom was how we could see the Temple of Concordia directly from a circular window.
The complimentary breakfast wasn't bad either. Perhaps this was around the quiet tourist season so we got the entire breakfast hall all by ourselves here.
There was a nice selection of salad, fruit, ham and cold cuts. Of course, I had to sample some local oranges along the way.
Hotel Villa Athena is the only five-star hotel in the Archaeological Park of the Valley of the Temples. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it's just a stone's throw from the temples which made things a lot easier for tourists like us who love to walk and admire the beauty of nature along the way.
