I have to admit, it was a weird feeling coming back to Vancouver, a city I used to call home for 14 years. A lot has changed since my last visit in 2008. I had a good chat with my cab driver last night when he was driving us to Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport where we'll be staying for a few nights, and I told him I could hardly recognize all these places in Richmond. What used to be a casino is home to a series of low-rise condos now. But then who am I to still pretend that I know Vancouver inside out. The last time I stayed in the city for more than a week was 2001. That's more than a decade ago.
Radisson Hotel Vancouver Airport brought back memory too. I actually saw it build from ground up and when new, it was one of the best in Richmond.
The design of our room looked a little old. Judging from the condition of the furniture, carpet etc., I am guessing that they haven't done much renovation work since Day One.
I was a little nervous coming back so I couldn't sleep all night. I kept staring out the window but it was just darkness. Then I passed out (I guess it's normal after not sleeping on the flight for 13 hours) until the sun finally came out.
It was time to wake up and get ready for my breakfast with a few guys that used to work with me when I was in Vancouver. Boy, that felt like a long time ago, 12 years to be exact.
