Ritz Carlton Beijing Financial Street (北京金融街麗思卡爾頓酒店) is a 5-star hotel in the heart of the financial district of Beijing. It's a great business travelers' hotel for its proximity to some of the biggest corporate offices in the capital city of China.
As a Ritz, of course I would be expecting top-notch service including efficient bell service and check-in. The team here did manage to deliver exactly that. I like the rooms too as they were fairly big and mine had a nice view of the Financial Street area which was pretty dead after 6pm.
There's always a down side for staying near the financial district. For one, the area was so quiet that even finding a decent cafe or restaurant seemed an impossible task. One night, I decided to take a taxi to the former US embassy area for dinner and it turned out to be a nightmare with the "typical" Beijing traffic as the seemingly short trip ended up taking more than half an hour. There's no real close subway station. The closest station, Fuxingmen (复兴门站), is about a 15-20 minute walk.
I thought breakfast was simple and unspectacular. I had much better breakfast buffet in cities like Bangkok, London and Tokyo. So after the first night, I decided to just sleep in and forget about breakfast all together.
In short, this is a pretty good business hotel for business travelers only but if you are a tourist in the city, there are plenty other choices available.
