We drove down from Paris arriving in Auxerre in less than 2 hours. The plan was to skip lunch altogether and spend the majority of our time touring the capital of the Yonne department before our much antipicated dinner at three-Michelin starred La Côte Saint-Jacques in Joigny.
Following a brief visit to the iconic Abbey of Saint-Germain d'Auxerre, we moved onto La Tour de l'Horloge, a medieval clock tower in the heart of Auxerre.
Auxerre is such a lovable historic town that is really worth more than a couple of hours but it was almost time to go.
But there's still an hour to spare before our dinner and frankly, I didn't think I could make it there with my low glucose level. So, we finally gave in and went for a quick bite at La Tour d'Orbandelle.
Speaking of history, La Tour d'Orbandelle is a French brasserie with a remarkably long history dating back to 1904.
The food menu here comprises of largely international dishes with a French twist. We first had a large pizza with escargots, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and tomato. That wasn't bad (or we were too hungry!?).
Scrambled eggs with ham came with no French twist but I was missing this badly (hotel didn't offer free breakfast!).
Some bloggers wrote online claiming that the food offered here was very close to fast food but I actually thought it's a little bit better than fast food.
