After our late dinner at three Michelin starred La Côte Saint-Jacques in Joigny, it was almost midnight! So, we quickly settled our bill and started driving to our hotel in hope to get there by midnight.
Just a 15-minute drive from Joigny, Mercure Auxerre Nord is our destination for tonight's accommodation. A motel lodge style hotel in an area called Appoigny just north of Auxerre, it's giving "hotel in no man's land" a whole new meaning.
Not surprisingly, there wasn't a soul there in the lounge and reception area at this hour. We had to ring the bell at the front desk and finally someone came out to greet us.

It wasn't long before we got our keys. So, we quickly hopped back into our car and drove down to our "apartment". The room was very dark even with all the lights on and a little small even for a motel.
But it's not like we will spend tons of time here anyways.

There wasn't much from the window. Right behind this building is Route nationale 6, a highway connecting Paris to the frontier with Italy in the Alps. As expected, there was the occasional noise from vehicles speeding up and down the highway but I was way too tired to care.
We wounded up sleeping in till almost noon time!
So, we got changed in a hurry and started unloading our luggage onto our car.
One last look at Mercure Auxerre Nord before we hit the road again. It's safe to say, we won't be seeing each other again, not in this life!
