Pici Pasta Bar Lai Chi Kok (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

I don't remember the last time I got so excited about a Marvel movie but months ago, when I first watched the trailer of "Shang Chi", they already sold me on it. After all, it's the first Asian (I would say Chinese) Super Hero movie done by the famed studio so it's certainly worth the hype.

It's an early start and I have exactly 30 to 35 minutes for a quick supper. But I wasn't worrying even one bit. I'm picking Pici Pasta Bar as my dinner venue tonight for no other reason than the fact that it's right next to the movie theatre.

I told my server I wasn't hungry enough for a full 3-course dinner so just a pasta dish followed by dessert would suit me just fine. Of course, there's the catch that everything must be done in about half an hour. Good thing he told me it's do-able. I like someone that tells me things are achievable. We need more of them at work.

Pappardelle beef cheek – The pappardelle was again very good. Perfectly al dente and the sauce was just about right.

The beef cheek ragu which was slow-cooked for 8 hours, I thought was a bit salty tonight. It was good that the strong flavors got balanced out a bit with the toss of onion, carrot and celery together.

Panna cotta – Looked a bit like the "coconut cheesecake" I had at lunch today but this panna cotta topped by a layer of raspberry coulis (again) was way better.

The creamy panna cotta has its usual melt-in-your-mouth texture and its sweetness was complemented nicely by the lovely acidity of the raspberry coulis. I would love to have their signature tiramisu but this was more refreshing, which was what I was aiming for. Considering the fact that I would be sitting for the next 2.5 hours, the last thing I wanted was something heavy like a tiramisu.

Service is normally not the reason why I come to Pici (their pasta is!) but I found their service to be pretty attentive tonight. I think the server who constantly came back to me to make sure that I didn't miss my movie deserves a medal.
