The Westin Chosun (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA)

There are a couple of reasons why I've always found my way back to The Westin Chosun whenever I come to Seoul - Location and service.

Location: This is where all the actions are, right next to the buzzing Myeongdong. Make no mistake about it, I love Gangnam and it's one of the most exciting places to be for dining and clubbing but unlike Myeongdong, the vast majority of the Gangnam streets quieted down considerably following dinner hours (especially the hotel area).

Service: I have always found the service here to be exceptional. The staff from reception, bell service, check-in and concierge all speak pretty fluent English and they work very diligently to ensure that we have a pleasant stay. Just like this recent visit, when we had a problem with our room on the 5th floor and they were immediately on top of it and had us re-located to the 16th floor in no time.

The concierge team also helped me out a lot with my restaurant bookings (It's a pain to make restaurant bookings in Seoul. Most restaurants, even the best ones do not have an online booking system or email booking service.) and even went out of their way to recommend some breakfast options for us. Outstanding!

But as a century old hotel (built in 1914), it's very difficult to be perfect at all angles. For starters, the rooms did look old and boring.

The bathroom was a little better but like the bedroom, it could use a facelift.

But back to location for a moment, it's virtually impossible to argue about the unbeatable location of this premise. The hotel is just a relaxing 3-minute walk to the City Hall, home to subway Line 1 and 2 while Line 3 and 4 are assessible via Chungmuro station in just 8-10 minutes.

We also managed to find time visiting Deoksugung (德壽宮) which stands across the street of the old and new city hall (5-minute walk from the hotel). The best thing about this medieval palace is that admission is absolutely free.

Most importantly, the location of Westin Chosun will allow you to explore the day and night of Myeongdong and trust me, it's a totally different experience on its own.
