Guillaume (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★☆☆

Gangnam has always been home to some of the most glamorous cafés and restaurants in Seoul. On this trip, I am particularly interested in what it has to offer in terms of French boulangerie, pâtisserie and tea salon. Following stops at Banana Tree, Etalp La Patisserie and Artisee Café, we finally made it to Guillaume (기욤), a place where we thought could satisfy all our craving.

From the French-style décor, we knew Guillaume's not just a neighborhood coffee shop.

It's a boulangerie with quality French bread.

Wait, there's more. Disguised as a boulangerie but in fact, it's a hearty pâtisserie with a lot of classic French pastries. Of course, their best seller is their mille feuille Royal which came from a special recipe Pastry Chef Eric Hausser had previously prepared for the Queen of England.

As a French food fanatic, I must say, I really appreciate Guillaume's ambition to establish a true French bakery and ca culture in a city desperately in need of an authentic European style tea room.

I think I have mentioned this on a number of occasions here already - There are millions of nice cafés in the city but not nearly enough European style tea rooms around here!

This caramel mousse cake with mango (₩9,900) was one of the most expensive cakes I had on this trip. Didn't look particularly sharp from its appearance.

I really liked the texture of the cake but the flavors of caramel and mango did not mesh together too well.
