We were supposed to make a quick stop at Oberpollinger Department Store to check out the Rimowa counter only, but little nugget wanted to see the toys section, and then The Rooftop Restaurant, one floor up from the toys, caught his eyes.
“The Rooftop Restaurant” is probably not the best name for this canteen-style place on the fifth (top) floor of the luxury department store. It was a huge space dedicated to all kinds of local dishes, including currywurst, Wiener schnitzel, and more.
The best part was that everything seemed to be cooked fresh and on-site right here in front of customers.
Little one was obviously hungry after we all woke up early to pick up our rental car, so he wanted a quick tour of the restaurant and, of course, a quick bite before we took off for Austria.
The currywurst was a popular choice thanks to the spiced gravy. Surprisingly, the three of us were even more hooked on the fries, which came sizzling hot straight out of the fryer.
And just like the previous currywurst dish where the sausage wasn’t really the focus, the highlight of this Wiener schnitzel was largely the creamy mushroom sauce instead. In fact, we found it made a great dip for the fries!
That was all the time we had for Munich. After a quick tour of the washroom, we headed back down to ground level and made our way to the car. Salzburg is about a two-hour drive away, so I guess we won’t be arriving before lunchtime after all.
