Kitashinchi Toriya Namba City 北新地鳥屋 なんばCITY店 (Osaka, JAPAN) ★★★☆☆

We’re making our final stop in Namba (難波), with Namba Parks and Namba City as the two main highlights for the rest of the afternoon.

Namba is an area that’s always buzzing with locals and tourists alike, so finding a dinner venue wasn’t easy. That said, we consider ourselves pretty fortunate to have snagged a table at the energetic Kitashinchi Toriya (北新地鳥屋) inside Namba City, without much of a wait.

Kitashinchi Toriya is a highly popular Japanese izakaya chain known for its signature rich chicken collagen hot pot (鳥屋鍋), charcoal-grilled chicken skewers, and lively, casual atmosphere. Founded over 20 years ago in Osaka, the brand has since expanded to multiple major locations across Osaka and Tokyo.

Deep-fried tofu — This was served in a flavorful dashi, and topped nicely with grated radish.

Chicken wings — Juicy and the seasoning came primarily from a homemade sweet soy.

Chicken skewers — Some skewers including the glizzard which I haven't had for a while.

Toriya Nabe — The signature chicken mizutaki hot pot, with a rich, cloudy white soup broth (鶏白湯) made by simmering domestic chicken bones and fresh vegetables for over 10 hours. Traditionally, you finish the soup by adding ramen noodles at the end, but we were just too full to take on more starch.

It was a really comforting meal, and the Toriya Nabe in particular was the perfect heart-warming broth for a cold winter night. With that, it’s almost time to head back to the hotel to retrieve our luggage.
