The last stop of our Kyoto day trip was a quick visit to Kyoto Station (京都駅). But first, we had to grab a few photos of Kyoto Tower at night.
Next up, it was time for dinner. We didn’t have to go far at all, because the area around the station was packed with dining options. The Cube, a prominent multi-level shopping mall inside the Kyoto Station building, had its top floors filled with Japanese restaurants offering a range of specialty cuisines.
Hanamarutei (花まる亭) is a teppanyaki and Okonomiyaki izakaya chain originated from Osaka, known for its fluffy okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) and chewy homemade noodles.
First, we dug into some yakisoba and meat dishes from the teppanyaki menu while we waited for our pancakes to arrive.
At last, the main event! Under the pancake and bonito flakes was a mix of shredded cabbage and chewy Japanese noodles, all brought together beautifully by that thick, sweet-savory okonomiyaki sauce.
That was a pretty nice meal. Cheap too, I might add. Now, we had to catch our train back to Osaka.
