I promised little nugget that we'd take him to watch the movie "Ne Zha 2" this weekend and we did exactly that. After the movie, we circle around Olympian City a bit before sitting down at Tsukiyomi Tori-Soba (月詠) for an early dinner.
It's been a while since my ramen-loving son had the chance to enjoy his favorite chicken paitan ramen (鶏白湯拉麵), which is exactly what Tsukiyomi Tori-Soba is known for.
Just three types of hot ramen to choose from here, Torisoba (原味鶏白湯拉麵), Torisoba with lemon butter (檸檬牛油鶏白湯拉麵) and Tantan torisoba (担担鶏湯拉麵).
Torisoba (原味鶏白湯拉麵) ($88) – When it comes to chicken paitan ramen, little one is a purist so obviously he doesn't want any lemon butter or spicy kick (dan dan sauce) to mess up the balance of the broth.
Little guy didn't voice any complaint but I had a sip of the broth and thought it tasted a little more like Campbell chicken soup to be honest. It lacked the deep, umami-rich flavors and complexity you'd expect from a well-made chicken broth. Not really what I was looking for.
Tantan torisoba (担担鶏湯拉麵) ($98) – The same chicken broth but it has been infused with the savory, spicy, and slightly tangy dan dan sauce so a bit of extra kick on top.

The chicken char siu was pretty decent.
The soft-boiled egg was perfectly executed. No complaints there.
Originated from Kagoshima Japan, Tsukiyomi Tori-Soba is best known for its additive-free, MSG-free, and hormone-free ramen dishes. Its chicken paitan ramen is supposed to be its signature dish but unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. Not even close.
