L'Aubenuit Patisserie 로브니 (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★★☆

I thought Seoul's temperature would be a little warmer in late March but that was hardly the case as we found out the hard way.

We took the airport limo to Sinsa station and as soon as we got off the bus, we were greeted by an unexpectedly strong wind chill. Let's just say it's not a pleasant feeling dragging our luggage while walking against the wind. We would have been better off going straight to our hotel but we still have a mission to accomplish - a visit to L'Aubenuit Patisserie (로브니).

L'Aubenuit Patisserie is a French patisserie which came highly recommended by a Korean blogger friend of mine who I have the uttermost respect for. He's an authority when it comes to food and dessert in the world.

Owner-patissier Lim Ho-yeon is very passionate about French desserts. His passion to hone his pastry-making skills took him on a journey to France in 2011, which lasted 6 years before he decided to come back to Seoul for his first solo venture.

I love the vibe of this dessert cafe. Very romantic and you could feel the love in the air. Almost. But I was less impressed with the service from the two ladies who were in charge of taking care of the cafe. They weren't particularly friendly with us right from the get go when they saw us handling two large pieces of luggage into their cafe.

Rosier (₩9,000) - A very elegant pastry with a raspberry flavored exterior and rose mousse on a base of sable breton. It was finished off beautifully with rose syrup and some dried rose petals.

A well-balanced dessert with the perfect mix of sweetness (mousse) and acidity (raspberry coulis in the middle). Very nice start.

L'aubenuit (₩9,000) - Chef Lim's namesake dessert with basil ganache, cheese mousse, and strawberry coulis. Basil together with cheese? Sounds like fun!

Strawberry coulis with a fragrant basil-infused ganache and white chocolate, hugged around by the silky smooth and fluffy cheese mousse. A very lovely combination of exciting flavors and textures. The slightly salty sable cookie base provided a nice exclamation point to the dessert.

I couldn't resist a piping hot milk tea to go with my desserts on such a freezing cold day.

P.S. Just before I got the chance to finish up my post, I was told that L'Aubenuit Patisserie has already moved out of Sinsa into another location. Here's the new address: 708-34 Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
