Just when I thought I couldn't do any further damage to my stomach, I ran into Lobster Shack, a lobster roll specialist in the heart of Sinsa-dong.
Opened back in December 2014, Lobster Shack joined a growing number of home grown eateries specializing in different kinds of lobster rolls, including the traditional Connecticut-style lobster roll made with warm Maine lobster meat, lime juice, lemon zest and homemade brioche buns. Well, I guess I can always find some wiggle room for a nice lobster roll!
At 6:30pm on a weeknight, this retro American diner was already packed with young customers.
Luckily, we were able to get a table without advance booking.
Autumn squash soup (₩9,000) - Starting things off for us was warm butter squash soup served with toasted garlic bread. But first, the million dollar question - how do we open this baby up?
After a lot of hard work, we finally managed to peel off the skin and now we could enjoy the autumn squash soup. Pretty nice.
Avocado grilled shrimp salad (₩16,000) - Despite the generous portion, the avocado salad with grilled shrimp, apple, pineapple, cherry tomato and sour cream was a bit of a disappointment.
Lobster roll with wasabi mayo (₩23,000) - This was what we all came for, one of their signature lobster rolls. They have 8 different styles of lobster rolls on the menu (others include Traditional Connecticut, Jala cheese, cajun cheese, original Maine, fresh mozzarella, fresh ranch and sriracha) and after much deep thoughts, we ended up getting this one with chilled lobster meal smothered in wasabi mayo.
I thought the warm and buttery brioche bun was pretty tasty but unfortunately, there were only 4-5 small pieces of lobster meat in there (there were other stuff in there including tomato). This was definitely different from what we have been getting elsewhere (say, Luke's Lobster in New York and Lobster Central in Hong Kong), where theirs are absolutely stuffed with delicious lobster meat and nothing else!
It was good for us to check out one of the hottest lobster rolls in Garosu-gil but next time, I would much prefer to turn my attention to their shrimp rolls and shrimp baskets instead.
