Two Plus Gangnam (Seoul, SOUTH KOREA) ★★★★☆

We tried to do at least one Korean BBQ on all my trips to Seoul. More often than not, we would settle for a place close to our shopping spree but this time around, we were taking a different route. Instead of picking a BBQ place in Myeongdong or Hongdae, we decided to venture a little further to Gangnam for our beloved barbecued beef. Our destination, Two Plus, is one of the many upscale restaurants under SG Dinehill Group, who is the proud owner of a number of popular dining concepts in town (including Korean and Italian and Chinese restaurants). Billed as a contemporary Korean BBQ house, Two Plus specializes in Korean Hanwoo 1++ beef, hence the name Two Plus. Often compared to the famed Kobe beef, Korean Hanwoo beef has 5 different grades (1++, 1+, 1, 2, 3) with 1++ being top of the class.

Two Plus Gangnam is not the easiest place to find even if you're an expert traveler in the Gangnam-gu. My simple advice is to look for the Tom N Toms Coffee shop on the ground floor and head up the staircase located on the side street to first floor where you would be met with the lovely fragrance of fine BBQ meat!

When they say contemporary Korean restaurant, they certainly mean it. We were impressed with the modern and slick interior which really set it apart from some of the older institutions in town.

They have a very simple food menu here, with just the Grade 1++ aged tenderloin and striploin (lamb and pork chop too) and some soup, noodles and fried rice. That's all she wrote.

Like every Korean BBQ meal, they started us off with a couple of side dishes first.

Then came the real deal, Grade 1++ aged tenderloin (41,000 won). To save us all the trouble, our server decided to do it all for us by slowly grilling the well marbled meat on both sides and cutting them into fine pieces.

I thought these were really really tasty. Not as well-marbled as the Kobe beef so it won't melt in your mouth but it came with a wonderful texture and super rich flavor.

I am not a huge fan of striploins. Let's just say it's not my favorite cut to begin with but I wanted to see how it compares with the tenderloin so we decided to take on an order of Grade 1++ aged striploin (37,000 won) too.

Not surprisingly, there's a bit more fat in the striploin and it came with a slightly firm texture.

Due to the size of the meat, we had to get extra vegetables for wrapping the beef.

Like their Hanwoo beef, the beef brisket fried rice (20,000 won) is a can't-miss item around here. The fried rice was a little spicy but the bite was just perfect especially with slices of delicious beef (Hanwoo also?) in the middle.
