We arrived slightly behind schedule as it was well past 2pm already. I had no doubt that the restaurant was closed for lunch by now but a quick peek into the dining room from the parking area revealed that it's still open!
As it turned out, it's open for lunch till 4pm. Yes you read it right - 4 o'clock!
Once we settled down, we began to realize how stunning this view (of Lake Bled) really was. And I must admit, it was what attracted us here in the first place.
I have heard so much about the modern Slovenian cuisine as a melting pot of different culinary cultures including those from Italy, Austria, Hungary and Germany.
Perhaps this amuse bouche could give us some insights into the modern Slovenian cuisine. It's a ricotta cheese "pudding" with "what-tasted-like" foie gras jelly and then pork and radish on top (4/10).
Our first starter, pumpkin soup with Jacob's scallop, was not the pumpkin velouté I was hoping for. It wasn't bad but I was expecting it to be a little more creamy and with a little more volume (4.5/10).
I was even less impressed wih the carpaccio of "Bohinj" beef with duck liver, "Zbrinec" cheese and beetroot (3.5/10).
Our main courses promised more excitement starting with my fillet of sea bass which was served with a pool of black herbal risotto, vegetables and a fish sauce with saffron (5/10).
The homemade pasta filled with spinach and "Zbrinec" cheese tasted very much like a ravioli. That was actually not bad but the King's crab and white fish sauce mentioned in the menu were missing in action. We did have a complimentary king prawn instead (4/10)!
