Both Hugo et Victor boutiques were a little out of the way from our hotel but we managed to squeeze out some precious shopping time to visit one of them amidst our tight schedule.
I had to make sure that they were open during our visit but guess what, despite it's not their holiday today, the boutique was temporarily closed (for lunch break?).
So, we had to wait in front of the boutique for about half an hour.
Thank goodness Hugues Pouget decided to leave his role as pastry chef pastry at three-Michelin starred restaurant Guy Savoy many years ago; otherwise, we won't have the luxury of these wonderful sweets. His concept is centered around three basic flavors, chocolate, vanilla and caramel with seasonal products added to his creation depending on his inspiration and what's in season at the time.
One of Hugo et Victor's bread and butter - their handmade chocolate, which is hugely popular in Paris.
I was offered a freebie, a chocolate bon bon infused with rhubarb. Not bad.
But I was more interested in the macarons.
A box of eight cost 17 Euros, which isn't bad at all.
Caramel macaron is always interesting. Earl Grey tea and milk chocolate, praline and Mango with spices look exciting as well! Let's pack these babies up to go please!
Of course, I had to leave myself some room for their exquisite pastries. Unfortunately, there're only a handful of them available and it's only early afternoon hours.
While the Pistache looks extremely promising, I ended up getting the Sphère en chocolat ouverte, which turned out to be a huge mistake because it's really fragile to carry around.
I believe that's caramelized marrons on top of the chocolate sphere there and I'm such a fan of marrons!
Inside the sphere made with milk chocolate were caramel cream and macadamia. Pretty decent but I thought we could hardly call this a cake (more like a chocolate dessert).
