With most of Pâtisserie Tony Wong’s boutiques having quietly disappeared from Hong Kong’s major shopping malls (i.e. New Town Plaza, Metroplaza etc.), it’s been a while since I last stumbled upon one by accident. But after catching Chef Tony Wong on a TV programme last week (a nostalgic reminder of why he was once one of my favourite local patissiers), I decided it was time to pay him and his creations a proper visit.
While I found myself in Tsim Sha Tsui running a few errands, I decided to swing by his boutique at Majestic House — a compact but elegant little space where his signature pastries take centre stage.
Though the spotlight remains firmly on his beautifully crafted cakes, there’s now a thoughtful little corner devoted to gift sets and artisanal cookies—perfect for those looking to bring a bit of sweetness home.
Purple Queen ($65) – I have my sight set on this seasonal creation made primarily with vanilla, pear and plum.
At the heart of the pastry is a delicate disk of Japanese pear agar and Purple Queen plum jelly, encased by a wall of Tahiti vanilla mousse and Hokkaido cheese cream. The textures were sublime — light, silky, and refreshingly airy — each element playing off the other with quiet harmony. A base of almond dacquoise added a gentle crunch and nutty finish, offering a well-balanced contrast to the soft, creamy layers above.
It’s been far too long since I last had one of Chef Wong’s desserts, and this was a timely reminder of his enduring talent. Few patissiers in the city can match his finesse and restraint — flavors are never overworked, presentation is always elegant, and the details, quietly impeccable. It's always a pleasure visiting his boutique to see what he has in store for us. Until next time!
