After checking into Andaz Shanghai, my new hotel in Xintiandi, I took a quick shower and started to head out for a tour around the area. The first thing that caught my eyes before I even left the hotel lobby was Éclair Patisserie, a small bakery and cake shop in the lobby level.
The décor of Éclair matches the contemporary theme of the luxury boutique hotel perfectly.
Of course, the patisserie is named "Éclair" for a reason. Éclair, the oblong shaped choux pastry filled with custard cream and topped with fondant icing, is the featured dessert here.
For éclairs, they have a number of interesting flavors including Rose & Raspberry, Blue berry and pina colada (18 RMB each).
There are other pastries that look a bit less interesting at the next display counter.
Salty pineapple éclair (18 RMB) - The choux pastry (or pâte à choux) was a bit weak and the custard filling was not creamy and velvety enough. A little disappointing.
Hazelnut chocolate éclair (18 RMB) - A bit better was the hazelnut chocolate éclair with the same subpar choux pastry but the filling and icing on top were both slightly richer.
Now that I have got my sweet tooth tamed, it's time to explore Xintiandi.
