Ojisan Ramen 大叔拉麵 (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

Little nugget has been asking for his ramen fix for a couple of weeks now but with our busy schedule, we were unable to meet his request......until this weekend. 



I gave him a choice between pasta and ramen and......nevermind. It's our second visit to Ojisan Ramen (大叔拉麵) at D2 Place. They are a ramen shop specializing in beef bone broth but I found that their chicken paitan ramen was even more palatable. 

Chicken paitan ramen with grilled Spanish Iberian pork fillet (炙燒西班牙黑豚肉雞白湯拉麵) – I had half a bowl of this last time around but today, I wanted one all to myself. 

The paitan (chicken white) broth was pretty rich and creamy meshing well with the noodles. I thought the charred pork fillet added some nice smokiness to the dish too.

Premium Chicken paitan ramen (特盛濃厚雞白湯拉麵) – Little one also decided to ditch the house special beef bone broth for this palatable chicken white broth as well!

It's just a different ("deluxe") version of mine that also came with some tender chicken fillet (which was pretty bland) and seaweed. Like the one I had, the bamboo shoots were fresh and sweet; and the soft-boiled egg, perfect with a runny yolk.

Not surprisingly, we have a very satisfied customer here. 

Some recent reviews on Ojisan claim that their broth was way too oily comparing to others in the market but from what we've seen so far, it's not really over the top. Having said that, I can see us coming back for a third visit pretty soon.

La Patisserie des Idees (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

A few weeks ago, Jelloman told me she's having a few events this week so no time for celebration on her birthday which is coming up in the middle of the week. While we could always have our celebration dinner later, we couldn't possibly go without a nice birthday cake. So, late last week I quickly ventured over to La Patisserie des Idees at D2 Place and ordered one for her.

Little one was very eager to get the ball rolling as soon as he saw mom coming thru the door after work.

Melon Duo – I had the miniature version before but this was a little different. Around the delicate Japanese Melon mousse were layers of melon rouge cremeux and sponge cake; and there was the mango jelly for the special kick of acidity on top of the sweetness. A really well-designed cake and everyone loves it~

And a very happy birthday to my better half.

Gino's Gelato at The Peak (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★☆☆

After what looked like a very long hike that actually lasted a little more than an hour, little nugget can finally breathe a sigh of relief cuz it's over! At the tail end of the hike, he was running out of gas under the heat so from time and time again, he kept asking me when it's going to be over. So, as a small token of reward, I decided to get him some gelato at Gino's.

Located just across from the Peak Galleria, Gino's is a very popular place for kids up here at the Peak since everyone loves gelato. They offer around 20+ flavors so little one got his work cut out for him just to decide what flavor(s) he wanted.

Vanilla, strawberry and "milk" as he referred to. The "milk" ice-cream was actually White Rabbit Candy Ice Cream (大白兔糖雪糕) that tasted a little like milk. Not bad.

After enjoying three scoops of gelato, we were still not done as I was forcefully dragged over to the candy shop. I told little one I was proud of him to finish the hike so he could get two candies as a reward. Of cuz he argued to have three at least and we all knew what happened next. 

It was a fun trip to the Peak with the old folks tagging along. To be honest, I didn't see much difference in the new peak tram but I was pleasantly surprised with the small crowd which is always good considering how tough it was to get on the tram just before COVID (with all the tourists).
