The thought about dad leaving us had finally sunk in. After settling all the remaining matters, I decided to get mom some fresh air. Staying in town was probably not a great idea especially when she was living alone, so I ended up getting us a pair of tickets to Tokyo.
I didn't have a lot of time to do my research. ANA InterContinental Tokyo immediately came to mind since I have stayed here on a number of occasions and it's very easy to get around the city.
While I didn't want me to repeat myself too many times, it's true that this place needed a facelift badly.
I got a lesson last time we stayed here when we got a room directly facing traffic (it was a bridge facing the entrance of the hotel) so I have requested ours to face the other side this time around. It has worked out perfectly for us. No earplugs required.
Well, this was the bridge I was talking about. I had a lot of memories walking around this area. That seemed like decades ago already.
When booking this hotel, I was seeking a sense of familiarity and comfort, and I thought I got it alright. I could navigate this area without a map and transportation from/to the airport was almost seamless. They have this huge waiting area in the lower level of the hotel so we didn't have to drag our luggage around much.
I have a lot on my plate this year with dad getting ill and finally leaving us. And I will be a father for the first time early next year. That's a load of changes in a matter of 12 months. But for now, mom and I were just happy to enjoy some quality time together. It was brief but both of us really enjoyed each other's company amidst this very difficult time. And that's a very important step going forward in our healing process.
