Historischer Keller (Trier, GERMANY) ★★★☆☆

Our short visit in Frankfurt was finally drawing to a close. After picking up our rental car, we started to embark on our journey onto Luxembourg and Switzerland. Right before we crossed the German border, we made a much anticipated stop at Trier, a city with plenty of history.

Talk about Trier, its history goes way back to the Roman Empire. Around two thousand years ago, it used to be an important part of the Roman Empire and tons of that history can still be found right in the heart of this oldest city in Germany.

The Porta Nigra, a city gate from the Roman times, is one of the most amazing architecture here.

We haven't had much to eat all day following the drive from Frankfurt it's time to get our tanks re-filled before visiting any other attractions here.

This is a really interesting cafe that got here at Historischer Kelle, hidden underground in the heart of medieval Trier.

A former cellar from the 1200's, it's now being transformed into a medieval german castle themed restaurant.

The cafe was a great place to satisfy my camera's appetite but don't expect the dining experience to be any different than eating at a school cafeteria.

Trier feels like the perfect setting of a fairy tale. (The Trier Cathedral and the Electoral Palace below). I just wish we had a little more time to explore the city. Maybe next time.....!

  1. This "Keller" restaurant in 1955 was fantastic. It is below ground and was a restaurant over 2,000 years ago. I was stationed at Prüm, Germany with the 615th AC&W Sqdrn. Visited often. Sorry to hear it has declined in quality.

    1. Perhaps the team in their kitchen was having a bad day. The restaurant itself looked great though...
