BluHouse at Rosewood Hong Kong (Hong Kong, CHINA) ★★★★☆

With Chinese New Year looming next Tuesday, business at our office was unofficially winding down from the end of today. I decided to give myself a small pre-CNY treat for lunch before heading into another long meeting in the afternoon. While a fine‑dining lunch would have been ideal, I ended up opting for something more casual at BluHouse.


Without an advance booking, it came as no surprise that no regular tables were available — only seats at the bar. Given the limited time I had to enjoy the meal, I gladly took the bar seat and settled in.


Vitello tonnato — Having visited BluHouse a few times over the past few months, I was already very familiar with their lunch menu. To kick things off, I went with the vitello tonnato. The cold, milk‑fed veal was sliced paper‑thin, silky and delicate as ever, meshing beautifully with the rich, umami‑laden tuna sauce. The capers added a welcome burst of acidity, nicely whetting my appetite.


Guancia di manzo — Next came the braised beef cheek, meltingly tender and deeply comforting. It was served alongside creamy mashed potatoes, root vegetables and mushrooms, all brought together with a lovely red‑wine reduction. Hearty and satisfying, just as I remembered.


Two mini pastries — I had ordered their tiramisu for dessert on every previous lunch visit, so this time I decided it was finally time for a change. I was told to pick two mini pastries from the dessert bar. 


Unfortunately, with my cough getting worse by the day, I didn’t manage to finish them — but it still felt like an indulgence to close out the meal.


It's been a few years since we last spent Chinese New Year in Hong Kong. I think I will enjoy it immensely.
