We were just catching our breath after little nugget's taekwondo class in early morning and there's still a very busy schedule ahead of us today but for the moment, I'm going to enjoy this one first.
Recently opened Pazzi Isshokenmei on the second floor of H Queens offers a unique take on Japanese cuisine with a strong Italian twist, or shall we say Italian dishes with Japanese flare. I'll let you know my view at the conclusion of this meal.
The ground-breaking restaurant takes over the 6,000 square feet of real estate previously occupied by Greek restaurant Estiatorio Keia.
Once we finished ordering, we were presented with some welcoming snacks courtesy of the chef.
Firstly, some Japanese edamame with black truffle sauce.
Crispy bread crackers.....
.....served with a slightly spicy aioli. These were very addictive.
Starting off the meal for me was Japanese red miso soup with Maine lobster, braised daikon and tofu.
I knew miso soup (more on the mild side) would work well with daikon but certainly didn't expect it to mesh so well with juicy lobster. A very interesting starter that was both well-designed and well-executed.
Playing safe, Jelloman decided to have the beef tartare with egg emulsion. Not a bad choice (but clearly the miso soup was the winner!).
I'm having crab tagliolini as my main course this afternoon. Very lovely presentation!
The fresh tagliolini from Northern Italy was tossed with a sauce made with Japanese crab meat, miso and onion. I like the crab roe paste there to give the dish a bit more savory flavors.
Jelloman again went the safe route with this trio donburi featuring Japanese imported crab meat, salmon roes and negiroro. Very fresh, according to my better half.
Pazzi Isshokenmei celebrates the marriage of Japanese and Italian cuisine with fresh seasonal ingredients directly imported from Japan and Italy. I do agree with some of the online reviews that their prices were a little high for what they were offering, but I guess that's the price tag for fine-dining in the heart of Central these days.
