Mrs Tang Cafe (華嫂冰室) started off as a traditional hole-in-the-wall tea restaurant near the Ping Shan Heritage Trail in Yuen Long. It's been flying under everyone's radar for years until a couple of stories on the newspaper and magazine put it on the map. But still it's a little bit far from the city for most of us.
But recently, Mrs Tang and company have finally decided to make a strong push to the city. Their new openings in Wanchai, Kwun Tong and most recently, Tsim Sha Tsui have come with much fanfare so I decided to check them out before getting my haircut this evening.
There are so many signature dishes here, including their silky smooth pantyhose milk tea, pineapple bun with fried egg, cheese, tomato and onion and of course, their legendary macaroni in rich tomato soup.
I was going to get their signature pineapple bun but this looked even more tempting - luncheon meat and egg sandwich. Coz I'm a sucker for spam!
While most places would do it with scrambled eggs, here they opted to use fried egg instead. Interesting.
The pantyhose milk tea was indeed silky smooth. I'm a happy camper now.
I accidentally ran into a new Eric Kayser which was just 2 stores from Mrs Tang Cafe and it looked like they're ready to open in a couple of days. I've been looking forward (and praising) to a new Eric Kayser on the Kowloon side ever since they closed down their Harbour City branch a few years ago.
