Betty's Burgers & Concrete Co. (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) ★★★☆☆

We're counting down to the final hours before we make our return to Sydney for the remainder of this trip. After walking around Melbourne's city centre for nearly an hour looking for our lunch venue, we finally found something we liked - Betty's Burgers & Concrete Co.

Betty's Burgers & Concrete Co, a renowned Queensland burger shack which has enjoyed a great deal of success in Queensland's Noosa Heads and Surfers Paradise before, arrived in Melbourne about a year ago.

The interior design took a page out of a 1950's style burger joint. Very nice.

I love the thick shakes (especially the peanut butter flavor) here. Really rich and thick but without going over the top.

Pork Belly Burger (AUD$12) - While Betty's Classic (with Angus beef and Betty's special sauce) received some serious consideration, I ended up going with their pork belly burger with crispy pork belly, lettuce, tomato, pickles and sriracha mayo.

I like the Asian twist there with the sriracha mayo reminiscing of the Chinese chili sauce along with the Chinese pickle. The pork belly was crispy and fairly juicy inside. Not bad at all.

Shroom Burger (AUD$12) - I naturally thought the mushroom burger would come with a beef patty (and mushroom on top) but this turned out to a veggie burger.

The "beef patty" was in fact crispy fried mushrooms filled with melted gouda and gruyere cheese and it formed a pretty amazing partnership with the crispy lettuce, tomato and Betty's special sauce. I like this even more than the crispy pork belly burger.

Honeycomb, Orange biscuit crunch (AUD$8) - We just got enough time to squeeze in one of their "concretes", referring to their rich and creamy custard ice-cream combined using their signature recipes. This one we chose had a lot of stuff in it including vanilla custard, honeycomb, almond biscuit, honey, fairy floss, vanilla cream and orange zest. Honestly, it didn't feel like eating ice-cream at all. It's refreshing and full of textures but somehow it didn't excite me like a traditional ice-cream.

I love simple burgers made fresh for each order using some of the freshest ingredients from the market and that's exactly what Betty's delivers. And those thick shakes, yum~
